l am assuming you're talking about for flipturns & backstroke underwater. People often feel like they will get water up their nose (and sometimes do). You can actually just hold ur breath, & keep a slight pressure of air (but not quite blow any air out) to keep the water out. Also remember that u can blow out a lot more air than it feels like. When you've blown out all the air out of ur lungs, u still have about 40% of the possible air u can fit left in them. You can always breathe out just a little bit more. Practice doing underwater shimmer on ur back, & u will get more comfortable doing it.
